| | | Parent involvement is a critical piece to student success. We at Hillrise would like to create a committee with parent and community involvement. The goals would be to work with the school principal and give advice, consistent with state and school district rules and policies, develop creative ways to involve parents in the schools, build community support for schools and encourage greater community participation in the public schools. This committee would meet once a quarter beginning during the 2nd nine weeks. If you are interested in being involved on this committee, please email Jennifer Martin, jmartin@lcps.net.
| | | Instruction can be broken into three layers. Layer 1 is core instruction which is the foundation for all learning in the general education classroom. Layer 2 is a preventative intervention level. Layer 3 is intensive interventions which can include special education services.
Layer 2 is a more direct and deliberate way of instructing and providing feedback. Students in Layer 2 consist of a wide range of students not scoring proficient on formative assessments and measures. At Hillrise we have a wide range of opportunities and resources to impact student success. We have two interventionists and an interventionist EA that provide services for students more than one grade level below with in person interventions. For students that might be scoring slightly below the proficiency level, we have GROW - High Impact Tutoring which is designed to provide Hillrise students with 3:1 two way video sessions with individualized support, aligned to the LCPS educational goals and benchmark assessments. These interventions are intended as short term. Teachers are trained in research based intervention programs that can be implemented in the general education classroom. They include, SPIRE, Sound Sensible, and Ready, Set, Math.
Students not making adequate progress with Layer 2 interventions continue into the SAT/MLSS (Student Assistance Team/ Multi-Layered Systems of Support) process. During this process the school works collaboratively with parents to identify appropriate strategies and interventions to address student needs. This sometimes results in further assessment for additional services if the student continues to not show adequate progress despite all efforts. | | | | Thursday, September 5, 2024, we had a terrific turnout for our PTO Meeting.
